Situated just 25 minutes from the Adelaide CBD, the Mount Barker District Council is one of Australia’s fastest growing regions, serving a diverse and rapidly growing community with a population today of 44,000 and projected to reach 63,000 over the next 20 years. Council manages a very significant portfolio of infrastructure assets, with plans in place for further major projects which will enhance the region as Mount Barker grows into the State’s second largest city whilst maintaining its rural hinterland and smaller towns and villages.
Reporting to the General Manager Infrastructure and Environment, and replacing a long serving incumbent on their retirement, this key role will be responsible for leading and managing all aspects of strategic infrastructure planning and engineering for Council’s transport, traffic and stormwater assets. The appointee will advise internal and external stakeholders to inform Council decision making as it delivers on the commitment to be the most liveable region in South Australia.
Leading a small team of technical subject matters experts, the ideal candidate will possess relevant tertiary qualifications, and extensive technical experience in the field of infrastructure and engineering supporting projects and programs in a municipal environment. Extensive experience in the development and review of engineering designs in relation to civil infrastructure is required as is the ability to oversee and prepare clear, high quality technical reports. Council has a track record of attracting and supporting young engineers and so a desire to mentor and develop engineering professionals is highly regarded.
The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to think strategically, apply commercial acumen and be customer focussed. An exceptional communicator you will model Council’s core values – safety aware, courageous, accountable, collaborative and authentic.
This is one of the most diverse and important roles of its type in the State with influence across all levels of government. Don’t miss this opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the rapidly evolving and growing district of Mount Barker.
