Founded in 2021 by Garry and Kate Putland in memory of Dr. Sophie Putland, Sophie’s Legacy is a small charitable entity dedicated to supporting veterinary staff and addressing the mental health crisis within the veterinary profession.  Through the passionate efforts of its founders and volunteers, the organisation has made significant strides in creating a platform that focuses on education, advocacy, and collaboration with key stakeholders.

Driven by a vision to “Save the People who Save our Animals,” the organisation seeks to appoint several suitably experienced board members to its newly established skills-based board.  Working alongside an experienced Chair, the Board will provide strategic leadership and governance, guiding the charity in fulfilling its vision and ensuring effective oversight of its activities.  Candidates with expertise in the following areas are sought:

• finance and strategy;
• legal, risk, and governance;
• marketing, communications, fundraising and media relations;
• government and stakeholder relations;
• relevant lived experience.

Applications are encouraged from diverse professionals and non-executive directors with demonstrated experience in strategic planning and governance.  High-level communication, advocacy, and stakeholder management abilities are essential, as are the warmth, empathy, integrity, and credibility necessary to inspire others to follow and contribute.  Relevant governance qualifications (AICD) and/or lived experience relevant to the entity’s purpose will be highly regarded.

The successful candidates will be committed to fostering a culture of compassion and support and will possess a visionary, proactive, and solution oriented mindset.
