    Australian Naval Infrastructure Pty Ltd (ANI) is the owner, developer and manager of ship and submarine building and sustainment infrastructure at the Osborne Naval Shipyard.  Since its formation in 2017, ANI has delivered major projects to expand and modernise Osborne into a world‑class shipbuilding precinct, with its current mega-project being the development of the nuclear‑powered submarine construction yard.

    ANI is experiencing a period of significant growth and is seeking to recruit an additional member to the legal team to support the increasing volume and complexity of activity.  This is a unique opportunity to be part of something big and would be well suited to a Senior Associate looking to make the move inhouse, or an experienced inhouse counsel looking for their next challenge.

    Reporting to the General Counsel & Company Secretary as part of a small team, the Senior Legal Counsel will work closely with commercial, procurement, technical, operational and project personnel across the business, providing expert advice and support ensuring the effective management of ANI’s legal and compliance obligations and effective contracting and legal risk management activities.

    This role is based in ANI’s CBD office, however some travel to ANI’s Osborne sites will be required from time to time.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • drafting, reviewing and negotiating agreements to manage ANI’s risk exposure, rights and obligations while meeting commercial and operational objectives;
    • working closely with internal teams to provide legal advice and oversight of ANI’s procurement activities, including involvement in tender processes, contract development and negotiation with counterparties;
    • delivering legal support for ANI’s non‑procurement contractual arrangements, including confidentiality deeds, licences, access permits and property‑related transactions;
    • contributing to the development and maintenance of ANI’s suite of standard contracts and agreements;
    • assisting in educating ANI personnel on legal, governance and compliance obligations.

    The role will suit a practising legal professional ideally from commercial, infrastructure/property, and/or projects practice areas or an in-house lawyer from an engineering/technical or project-based environment.  Important qualities include the ability to work independently and proactively in the provision of commercial and practical legal advice on a broad range of matters, exceptional writing skills and attention to detail and the ability to clearly communicate legal concepts to non-legally qualified colleagues.  Being well organised, results focussed and with the ability to collaborate using highly effective interpersonal skills are all essential for success in this role.

    Applicants must hold a current South Australian practising certificate (unrestricted) and must be able to gain and maintain appropriate security clearances and background checks.

    ANI offers a dynamic working environment (including a compressed 9-day fortnight) in a supportive and collaborative team.
