Situated just 25 minutes from the Adelaide CBD, the Mount Barker District Council is one of Australia’s fastest growing regions, serving a diverse and rapidly growing community with a population today of 44,000 and projected to reach 63,000 over the next 20 years. Council manages a very significant portfolio of infrastructure assets, with plans in place for further major projects which will enhance the region as Mount Barker grows into the State’s second largest city whilst maintaining its rural hinterland and smaller towns and villages.
The Principal Transport and Traffic Engineer will be the responsible custodian of Council’s Integrated Transport Plan and associated action plans covering the following:
As the Council’s traffic planning and engineering Subject Matter Expert, the role will advise internal and external stakeholders to inform Council decision making as it delivers on the commitment to providing high quality, safe and effective transport infrastructure in partnership with the development sector and State Government.
Reporting to the Manager, Infrastructure Planning & Engineering, key responsibilities include:
The successful applicant will ideally possess relevant tertiary qualifications, and extensive technical experience in the field of transport planning and traffic engineering supporting transport planning and traffic engineering projects and programs in a municipal environment. If relevant qualifications are not held, significant experience in this specialized domain will also be worthy of serious consideration. Extensive experience in the assessment, development and preparation of engineering and transport strategy in relation to road safety, car parking, active transport and road network management will be required. The ability to prepare clear, high quality technical documentation and reports and to provide expert technical advice and mentoring to engineering professionals will be highly regarded, as will experience engaging with communities to articulate technical concepts in plain language. Experience in, or qualification as a Road Safety Auditor is desired, but not essential.
