    Reporting to the Manager Sport and Recreation and working as part of a collaborative Community Development portfolio, this impactful role is responsible for:

    • providing leadership and strategic direction for sport, recreation, events, and arts initiatives across the City;
    • developing and implementing policies, plans, and strategies to enhance community benefits and participation;
    • leading and developing the sport, recreation and events team to achieve Council’s vision;
    • fostering strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to integrate sport, recreation, events, and arts;
    • securing and managing funding and resources to support Council-led projects and programs;
    • overseeing the management and activation of Council’s sport and recreation facilities.

    With appropriate tertiary qualifications you will demonstrate substantial experience leading and implementing programs within sport, recreation, and events planning and activation, ideally in a government context.  Other important experience includes:

    • strong strategic planning and decision-making skills, with the ability to analyse and resolve complex issues;
    • high-level written and verbal communication, facilitation, and presentation skills with the ability to build professional relationships with diverse stakeholders;
    • proven leadership experience in managing staff, volunteers, and student placements ;
    • contract management, negotiation and policy development experience relevant to sport, recreation, and events.
