    Reporting to the Manager Sport and Recreation and working as part of a collaborative Community Development portfolio, this pivotal role is primarily responsible for:

    • leading and modelling Council’s vision in delivering the Thrive Strategy through innovative recreation planning and programming;
    • activating public open spaces including parks, play-spaces, arts, cultural and civic precincts to create vibrant community spaces;
    • developing innovative community partnerships to increase the use of public spaces, clubs and recreation centres;
    • leading community initiatives within a dynamic team to deliver impactful projects that enhance community wellbeing, belonging and community spirit;
    • building and maintaining key stakeholder relationships to inform policy and strategic decision-making for community benefit;
    • managing the planning and implementation of significant community development projects.

    With appropriate tertiary qualifications you will also bring substantial experience in a relevant field such as recreation planning, sociology, geography, or environmental psychology.  Other important experience includes:

    • the ability to lead and interpret research and consultations into actionable advice that drives positive community outcomes;
    • experience in preparing strategic plans, reports, recommendations, and specialist advice to enable Council to achieve quality outcomes;
    • proven ability to build strong relationships and influence outcomes with staff and stakeholders that add value to Council-led programs and community-led initiatives;
    • high-level written and verbal communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.
